Joining GoodFlix, AGE PRODUCTIONS and co-directors Mr Chen, also known as Kenji Lee, and Ashil Ranpara. Horn recently starred in and also executive produced SLUGGER, a short series with a strong anti-bullying message.
We’ve had the privilege to support Horn for 5 years, since Feb 2016, to transition him from teaching to full-time boxing. Jeff Horn has repeatedly proven himself to be a legend in and out of the boxing ring. Oxmar’s director Phil Murphy shared with Oxmar News that:
“Most people know about Jeff’s impressive wins in the ring, but few realise that Jeff’s legendary talent is only eclipsed by his BIG heart of gold! My team and I are so very excited to see Jeff star in SLUGGER!”
SLUGGER is a young adults sports dramedy inspired by Horn’s teen years. Over 6 episodes, the fictional series explores the universal themes of bullying, friendship, and overcoming grief and loss. Drawing on his 4 years as a teacher, Horn is a convincing PE teacher who mentors secondary school student Jack Johnson, played by Zachary Cumberbatch. Orphaned at an early age, Jack suffers from low self-esteem. A group of jocks self-styled as ‘Da Boys’ torment Jack and his two friends, Kenny and Sam, played by Kenji Lee and Fraser Anderson. But with Horn’s tutelage and encouragement, Jack learns how to believe in himself and box like a legend. The series reaches its climax with Jack and his nemesis Bob, played by Lachlan Engeler facing off in the ring for the Queensland Youth Boxing Championships.
Marketed as ‘ROCKY’ and ‘CREED’ meets ‘THE KARATE KID’, SLUGGER is a must-watch for teens, young adults, and adults. The SLUGGER short film is now available via the social enterprise streaming platform GoodFlix www.goodflix.tv for public streaming in support of an anti-bullying charity. Schools will be able to view SLUGGER via the ClickView educational video platform.
